Nanakusa Preschool provides activities with monthly themes. 

September

  • Let's paint a big moon.

  • Lets eat Tsukimi Dango (Autumn moon dumplings).

  • What do you see inside the moon? 

 

October

  • How many seeds in a pumpkin? Let's count them.

  • Let's decorate pumpkins. 

  • Come play at school in your costume.

  • Let's plant bulbs (crocus, daffodil, tulip) for flowers in the spring.

 

November

  • Let's collect colorful Fall leaves and different kind of nuts. 

  • Create art with leaves.

- Collage of leaves, nuts and sticks.

- Autumn leaf pine cone turkey. 

- Autumn leaf prints.

- Handprints turkey. 

  • Let's make a Thanksgiving card.

 

December

  • Make Christmas decorations.

- Pine cone Christmas tree.

- Paper wreath.

- Ornament with beads.

  • Annual holiday parent and child craft event 

January

  • Let's make New Year's greeting cards.

  • Let's play Japanese traditional New Year's games.

  • Top and kite making.

  • Let's make Nanakusa gayu (congee traditionally eaten on the 7th day of the new year) with spring greens.

 

February

  • Celebrate Setsubun.

  • Oni mask making.

  • Let's chase Oni away with soy beans!

  • Let's make Valentine's Day cards.

  • Let's make hearts with felt and paper.

 

March

  • Girls' Day Celebration.

  • Let's make dolls (Ohinasama and Odairisama) for Girls' Day. 

  • Observe Spring flowers from last Fall's planting.

 

April

  • Make vegetable stamp art.

  • Look for vegetable seeds.

  • Look for roots, stems, leaves and flowers (Which part of the vegetables do we eat?).

  • Observe the anatomy of a tulip.

  • Let's make vegetable soup.

 

May

  • Children's Day Celebration.

  • Let's make Koinobori (carp pennant) and Kabuto (helmet).

  • Make Mother's Day cards.

  • Paint butterfly life cycle art.

  • Let's discover bugs outside.

June

  • Graduation art making.

Science experiments

Nanakusa students enjoy a number of natural science experiments throughout the year. 

  • Magnets experiment: Let's look into things sticking together.

  • Let's make clay with flour and paste.

  • Things that float and sink in water.

  • Which color can you make? Let's mix colors. 

  • How will the color of a celery's leaves change after putting them in color water? 

  • How will water move along paper? 

  • How will a seed grow? Let's look into necessities (sun, water, soil).

  • Let's make a string telephone.

  • How will they look? Let's look at various things through a microscope. 

  • Let's make crystal.
